Hard problems become easy when broken into layers: number clues, ratio and percentage steps, jobs that wait for others, and elimination puzzles.

Key ideas

Remember

Share in a ratio a : b of Nb part = b ÷ (a + b) × N
Exampleboys : girls = 2 : 3 in 40 → 24 girls; 25% of them = 6
Finish time of a joblatest finish of the jobs it waits for + its own time
Multiples of a or b up to Nmultiples of a + multiples of b − multiples of both
Examplemultiples of 3 or 5 up to 30: 10 + 6 − 2 = 14
