Section A · multiple choice
- 1.
A force is a:
- type of matter
- measure of time
- kind of energy
- push or pull
Answer
(d) push or pull
- 2.
Which force is at work in ring magnets floating on a pencil?
- magnetic
- buoyant
- muscular
- friction
Answer
(a) magnetic
- 3.
Which of these is a NON-CONTACT force?
- the force in lifting a school bag
- the force in a bullock pulling a cart
- the force in brakes stopping a bicycle
- the force in a ball thrown up coming back down
Answer
(d) the force in a ball thrown up coming back down
Section B · short answer
- 4.
What is force?
Answer
A push or a pull that results from two objects interacting.
- 5.
Name the force (gravitational, magnetic, electrostatic, friction or muscular): (a) a ball thrown up coming back down (b) brakes stopping a bicycle
Answer
(a) gravitational (b) friction
Section C · long answer
- 6.
Explain contact and non-contact forces with two examples each.
Answer
Contact forces act only when objects touch: muscular force when we push a box, friction when a rolling ball slows. Non-contact forces act from a distance: gravity pulls a falling apple, a magnet attracts iron, and a charged comb attracts paper bits.
Fresh sheets for your child
In the app, every Exploring Forces sheet is new: the app remembers the questions your child has already had and leaves them out. Print the sheet as a PDF, or use notebook mode and write the answers in a notebook.
